It’s a song that you can imagine on an Australian television station when it wants to brag about itself, it’d use this melody. It’s schmaltzy to the core, but it’s got a sense of braggadocio. If Dick Lee ripped off Rhodesians Never Die, just for the irony, it’d be a poetic piss-take of the English. Personally, I’d rather the organisers used United by Throbbing Gristle.

I have an idea that might just have a significant impact on the pollution problem and it would require choreographing/orchestrating the cooperation of School CCAs, Not-For-Profit Orgs, the Public(the average shopper… just an additional 5% effort), retailers and the most Importantly the Government cos need help with things like HPB app. If i finally have time to pen it down in detail on the ForwardSG site and if i miraculously get the blessing of the Government and all these factors align there is a good chance this might work and spark a globally spreading paradigm with Singapore shining as the spark that started it all

I think what the government is doing to offer help after the problem pops up, which is wrong and also too late. For example, after many poor families multiply themselves senselessly and recklessly and then get caught up in a situation whereby they cannot afford to feed their children, then they offer help. It is often too late to reverse the situation for them and very costly. A more sustainable and cost effective way of helping them is to give them advice as to how to take care of themselves and plan for their future before it spiral out of control. Offering them piece meal help after the fact does not really help. Some may take the view that getting help from the government is an entitlement. I often hear people saying 'because we are from low income families' , therefore the government should help us. I ask them, why do you give birth to so many children? They will say, we love children or it just happen. They have no sense of responsibility. They don't blame themselves from get themselves into such a mess.

Beautiful Dreamer by American songwriter Stephen Foster who wrote it in 1826 and only published in 1864 after he passed away, penniless. Many brilliant artists have had to suffer for their art in their lifetime, though their works have endured. I’m sorry to pour cold water on this but I found the choice of song ironic.

So many policies that is self contradicting. Issuing pink IC to single Malaysians who are in their mid 40s. Are these people subjected to the effects of ageing population. Are you later going to say GST will be 12% because we got not enough resources to feed these new citizens that enter this country with no significant contribution apart from diluting the votes and depressing our wages. There is no need to do more if in the first place the gahmen didn't think day and night of creating new policies to eat Singaporeans and take advantage of local born SG citizens.

Bills tat cannot b avoided.... 2 b able to work, must b healthy 2 b healthy, must have proper meals.... Rn some r surviving on bread n water only....how to stay healthy n b able to work?😢

The sad truth is rn is in the bosses' court....the bosses, the rich...having such attitudes: times r bad, take it(new jobs offers with lower salary income offer) or leave it.... N the bosses claimed no Singaporean wants to take up the offer, tats why they employ foreigners.... Singaporean can n will take up the offer (putting bread n butter on our table) unless: 1) cost of living is brought down: Ppty tax Income tax GST Food Water and electric bills Kids Education n their basic essential needs Basic healthcare needs for aging parents... (All these r daily essentials) where every household will face on a monthly basis...😢 2) can u imagine, an employer engage a Singaporean or a Malaysian who lives in JB, who will u engage? Both also offered a $5k job offer, but 1 in SGD n the other in Malaysia Ringgit If Sg govt wanna help in the decades long problem, starts looking deep into core problem...dun do a surface scratch diagnosis.... Start implementing fair employment like offering both candidates (e.g. a Singaporean n Malaysian) same starting pay in SGD..... N most new citizens use Sg as their citizenship hub too....look at China actress Gong Li, where is she rn? N not only her, many other foreigners too, the China Chinese n India Indian....u have the statistics, u look n study the statistics Talk about getting loyalty from them🤦‍♀️

Chapter 5: is about the future. What is Singapore's DNA. Digital inclusion is very important. Chapter 5 resonates with me because I fear digital and still to today I really need to improve in this area. I really hope that people in the workplace can be very sharing in this area. That would be an instant, great practical support. Elders should write down the digital steps when they are shared (not always possible). Also we need to be concerned about digital safety too. "We don't digitalise for the sake of digitalisation" - I think that is a great point. What concerns me all the time is what happens should I get disconnected for some reason. Also when someone is very old - having access becomes increasingly difficult and even impossible. Having said that - eventually even paper access becomes impossible. The essence of Singapore Forward is to take stock and to chart a new way forward. Thank you.

You are doing fine as far with digitalisation as I what I observed in your thoughts that you share with us. I am a computer engineer by training and the constant change too has taken its toll on me. Over the past decade, I was constantly learning, unlearning, relearning, and it is only this evening that I came back to where I started, i.e. the www.sg that accompanied me during my adolescence years when I was still a kid learning how to use the internet at 33.6kbps in the year 1995. Back in the 1990s, the www.sg project was that of a search engine that combed all the websites based in Singapore, it was primitive but yet a major accomplishment based on technology available back then. In the recent three years, the government upcycled the entire www.sg so that it became the Forward SG exercise, and it was a timely one so to say the least. I enjoyed watching this series very much and I am comforted by how DPM Lawrence Wong chooses to be open in His approach towards tricky issues in Singapore, this is a good enough excuse for me to vote PAP in 2024/25 when He takes over. Thanks to Susan too for helping the community summarise the episodes in your own words. Cheers and seasons greetings to you and your loved ones!

Chapter 3: Your home is a safe harbour - I love that expression. Chapter 4: Essentially, this chapter is about what it means to be Singaporean. Home, community. My comment about this: every country has this issue because people come from different places and different regions. Thus society operates in microcosms. That is reality. What needs to be worked upon is that we can move easily between microcosms. I like the live and let live philosophy. For example, last night, I went to two supermarkets: Fairprice and I buy things there and then I went on to Sheng Siong. In both places, the staff know me and we greet each other and say hi and we talk about food, produce and other things. They are happy to see me and I am happy to see them. It is one of the things I look forward to when I go to these supermarkets. The staff here are a mix of different ethnicities/races (Chinese, Indian and Malay) and we are able to connect. I have no fear to go there and that is the most important thing for me. In the workplace, I work with different ethnicities and we share different food and share our culture. I agree with Chapter 4 - we speak for the future generations (government). People need to be able to understand the government. We are guardians for the next generation - that is survivability. We should also be supportive of the environment. Everyone holds part of the answer (last sentence of Chapter 4).

I have now listened to chapters 1, 2 and 3. My key takeaways: Chapter 1: The goal is to refresh the social compact. Singapore Forward is a roadmap for the future, keeping in mind the long term perspective. Aims identified: Confident and competent - all hands on deck and that everyone can do something. Responsibilities, duties and obligations. The only way to do well is have others' back. Chapter 2 emphasises the importance of all jobs and to break away from stereotypes - very challenging to do. There are explanations as to why things were done the way they were in the past. Upskilling is key. Find your drive. Don't chase after others dreams. Definitions of success. Chapter 3: Communities: Chapter 3 focuses upon community and the people around you. In essence, the issue of housing and the surrounding area such as childcare and facilities people need. Also healthy living. My comment: I have watched three chapters now and I like the idea that we have a story because it means that the government sees a future and is building a way forward. I think we can only comment about countries that we have lived in for a long time because we hopefully can really understand the place. We could be ostriches and say let's continue the past and some countries do that but at the same time we need to keep abreast of two things: one the reality of existence and the direction that people are going in. Good leadership helps people keep to the straight and narrow and go in the right direction. Good governance provides the rudder but we have to be savvy enough to be aboard and onboard. I particularly liked what one minister said and that it does not have to cost a lot of money: sleep was one example. You know we could easily get more sleep if we gave it a higher priority and value. I also liked what one of the ordinary people said how plumbing has a value. I am so grateful for all the cleaners and all the people that keep Singapore going. Do say hi and wish them a good day when you meet them.

desire to keep on learning + not obsessing on schools? those whom yearn to be engineers or even technically exclusive jobs such as sewage experts, architects etc, should be paid top dollars similar to doctors and lawyers. as long as that is not measured by dollars and cents, then we are doomed. the chain reaction will always continue - education - school - uni - doc/lawyer as first choices before "downgrading" decisions based on grades.

I feel like the government is not serious about going green yet. It seems to be only a recommendation, and there is no dire need. 1. If there is, Singapore should start putting in place measures like in South Korea and Japan, where it is compulsory to segregate waste. 2. If Singapore government is serious, these actions of waste segregation and recycling would have been compulsory for students in all levels in school - so that they naturally carry that on in life outside school. 3. The government should make food importers and distributors use packaging and labeling that is recycling friendly (e.g. Japanese & Korean product labels - they easily peel, making it easy to recycle) Without above measures seriously planned and considered, going green will continue to be a recommendation and we will not get real outcome.

Yes, so for a start, instead of looking down at labour jobs because of their low salary, we need to increase them so that we don’t look down on people who earn less
